The Hogrock Experience

Back at Hogrock: Why This Adventure Rally Still Hits Different

I rolled back into Hogrock this year not entirely sure what to expect. I'd been before, I knew the terrain, I knew the drill — but somehow this trip still managed to remind me why this rally has earned a permanent spot on my calendar.

The first thing that hits you at Hogrock isn't the trails. It's the people. From the moment I rolled into camp, there was this immediate, no-effort-required welcome — the kind you don't get at every rally. Strangers waving you down to help back your trailer in, riders trading route tips before you've even cracked a beer, someone offering you a spot at their fire like you'd been friends for years. That vibe sets the tone for everything else, and it's honestly half the reason I keep coming back.

Then there's the riding itself. Hogrock does something a lot of rallies try and fail to do — it actually delivers on both ends of the spectrum. If you're chasing technical adventure riding, there's terrain out there that'll test your skill and your nerve in equal measure. Rock sections, tight single track, elevation changes that keep you honest. But if you're on a dual sport, or just want a mellower day in the saddle, there's a whole different set of routes waiting for you. That range is rare, and it means you're never stuck riding above — or below — where you actually want to be that day.

Camp itself deserves its own paragraph. The campground was pristine — genuinely well-kept, with enough space that you're not tripping over your neighbor's tent lines or listening to someone else's generator all night. After a long day of riding, having a campsite that actually feels like a place to decompress instead of just a parking lot with a tent makes a bigger difference than people give it credit for.

And then the evenings. Live music carrying across camp while everyone's swapping stories about the day's near-misses and best lines. Food that actually hits after twelve hours on the bike. And to cap it off — fireworks lighting up the sky over a campground full of adventure bikes and dirt-caked riders. It's a strange, perfect combination that somehow makes total sense once you're standing in the middle of it.

Hogrock isn't just a rally — it's a reset. It's proof that this community, when it's done right, is as much about the fire pit conversations and shared trail knowledge as it is about the miles you put down. I left tired, dusty, and already thinking about next year.

If you've never made it out to Hogrock, put it on your list. And if you want the full breakdown — routes, gear, the people I met, and probably a story or two Ben will make me tell on the podcast — head over to The Kickstand Sessions and subscribe to moto travel guy on YouTube. More trip recaps, gear reviews, and adventure riding lessons coming soon.
